Join Scott from BIKEIOWA.com to hear about what's on his radar in the Iowa cycling scene this weekend. #FridayFives is a new series for Summer 2020 and we plan to share fun destinations, events and happenings each week.

For Week #8, it is:

1) TRAIL GNOMES
Everyone has their favorite dirt trails, but dirt trails don't build themselves and dirt trails don't maintain themselves! People do! This week, navigational trail signage was placed on the South Sycamore Mtb Trail. - a Des Moines MTB trail that's 3-4 miles long. THANK YOU to ANDY and CHERYL of Central Iowa Trail Association for their work to install the new signs and for donating a pull-behind trailer for future sign installations!

2) HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOB!
If you've been to Cumming Tap along the Great Western Trail, you've probably met Bob Moural! Bob's birthday is today (July 10) and we bet he'll be celebrating all weekend. Bob has been a trendsetter in the cycling scene and made the Tap a "school night destination" over the years. From Taco Tuesdays to Steak Nights to live music and hosting gravel races, the CUMMING TAP has been a staple in the cycling scene. Wish Bob a HAPPY BIRTHDAY if you stop by this weekend!

3) HISTORY ON TWO WHEELS
The Des Moines Historical Society is hosting a Zoom program on Tuesday, July 14. Des Moines: History on Two Wheels attendees will learn how long Iowa has been bicycle crazy for with historian John Zeller. Ichi Bike Dan will share some of his favorite bicycle restorations and Deb Madison-Levi will share the story of her restored ice cream bike. Get signed up ASAP so you can get the Zoom link to access the program.

4) FREEZIE POPS!!!
Looking for something different? Something cool and refreshing? Iowa Distilling Company in Cumming is offering freezie pops in four flavors! Each freezie pop is $4 and delicious! There's a limited quantity available each day (because freezing takes time) - so get them while they are hot... Or cold...
