Right now, there are about 200 emergency checkpoint signs along Des Moines bike trails.
'In case of an emergency' signs clearly display a mile marker, identify the trail you are on, and your 911 location in the event that there is an emergency.
"I like them," said Rick Lancaster, an avid bike rider.
Lancaster rides the trails with confidence, knowing there are signs specifically there in case of an emergency.
He has confidence that it is not a solo ride.
"If there is a medical emergency and somebody needs help, they obviously need to be located. I think that is very helpful," said Eric Wetzel, who rides the Des Moines trails.
When complete, there will be 282 Emergency Checkpoint Signs along Des Moines trails.
