50 years of RAGBRAI and our first trip across the state is in the books. Here are my thoughts.
The road to building the 50th route.
The road to building a route for our 50th started on a paper map, moved online to Ride with GPS and became real after our first meeting with the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) nearly four months ago. We went mile by mile and day by day in October which is earlier than they’ve ever seen it. We looked at their 5-year construction plan to make sure the roads selected wouldn’t be affected by construction. There were a couple of issues that impacted change. Depending on where we are at in the state, we either have lots of options or slim pickings for roads. Once we felt the route was in a good spot, we decided to share it with all the DOT district leads.
