The Ironman triathlon will be going the distance in Des Moines next year.

The organization behind the event announced Wednesday that the city's second Ironman race will be full-distance, with athletes covering a 140.6-mile distance in swimming, cycling and running. Last year's triathlon in Des Moines was a half-event at 70.3 miles. The event will take place across Des Moines, West Des Moines and surrounding areas in Polk and Dallas counties, with the finish line downtown.

General registration opens Nov. 1 for the event, which is scheduled for June 12, 2022.
