Local community leaders met with the Buchanan County Supervisors and the Independence City Council on Monday asking for their support in applying for the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) to consider Independence to be a Host Town sometime during the week of July 20-27, 2024 for RAGBRAI LI (51).

In the morning Independence Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Niki Barth and Buchanan County Tourism Director Jill Chemin met with the Supervisors during their regular meeting at the Court House.

“Buchanan County Emergency Management and Secondary Roads were also present at the Board of Supervisors meeting to discuss what being a Host Town for RAGBRAI would mean for their organizations,” said Chemin.

After a discussion about County services and concerns, the Supervisors voted to draft a letter of support for Independence to be a RAGBRAI LI Host Town.
