Distance - Three distances: 60 miles, 30 miles and 6 miles.

Four routes for all cycling levels are being offered through the beautiful northwest Iowa countryside for the seventh annual Wellness on Wheels (WOW7) Bicycle Ride.


The event will be Saturday, June 3, during the Sioux Center Summer Celebration festival.


All four routes, ranging from 6 to 60 miles, will start at Children’s Park in Sioux Center. Welcome/aid stations with Gatorade, water and snacks for riders will be located along each route to rejuvenate the riders before heading back out onto the road.


The event also will include a complimentary moisture-wicking T-shirt and a Casey’s breakfast pizza meal.

Route

Four routes are offered:

  • A 60-mile paved route, departing at 6:30 a.m., will travel through scenic southwestern Sioux County through the communities of Hawarden and Ireton;

  • A 30-mile paved route, departing at 8 a.m., will travel through the Sioux County countryside to Ireton and back;

  • A 30-mile gravel surface route, departing at 8 a.m., will take riders on a large loop in rural Sioux County past interesting features.

  • A 6-mile Fun Ride, departing at 9 a.m., will travel to the Sandy Hollow Recreation Area and back on the Sioux Center Recreation Trail.

The cost through the early-bird deadline of Monday, May 22, is $25 for the 60-mile ride and 30-mile paved and gravel routes. The cost increases by $10 after that date until the start of the event. The Family Fun Ride is geared toward individuals and families who enjoy a more leisurely ride. The ride is free, but donations will be appreciated.

Proceeds from the event will support Promise Community Health Center of Sioux Center. Promise is the only Federally Qualified Health Center serving the far northwest corner of Iowa. The nonprofit health center provides medical, prenatal, dental, vision/eye and behavioral health care, with a particular mission of serving uninsured and under-insured patients in the region. The health center helps people overcome whatever barriers they may face to health care, whether that be financial, lack of transportation or language.
