City of Des Moines begins planning for 2040
What will Des Moines look like 25 years from now? Where will new
residents live? How will our neighborhoods keep their character while
new homes and businesses are built? How should the City encourage new
development and where? The City is beginning a process to determine the
answers to these questions and more with the development of a new
Comprehensive Plan.
PlanDSM – Creating Our Tomorrow is
a 3-year effort by the City of Des Moines to develop a new
Comprehensive Plan to update and replace the 2020 Community Character
Plan that was adopted in August of 2000. The effort will also result in
adoption of a new zoning code and updated zoning map for the City.
The City of Des Moines is holding a series of four public meetings to gather citizen’s ideas and input for PlanDSM. The day, date, time, location and host for each of the four public meetings are as follows:
- Tuesday, February 24, 2015, 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Municipal Service Center, 1551 E.MLK Jr Pkwy (hosted by Ward 4)
- Thursday, February 26, 2015, 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Polk County River Place, 2309 Euclid Ave (hosted by Ward 2)
- Tuesday, March 3, 2015, 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Des Moines Central Library, 1000 Grand Ave (hosted by Ward 3)
- Tuesday, March 10, 2015, 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Polk County River Place, 2309 Euclid Ave (hosted by Ward 1)
The presentation and opportunity for
input will be the same at each of the meetings. Neighborhood
representatives, business owners and citizens are welcome to attend any
or all of the public meetings.
