On Feb 17th 2022 Mark McGrew lost his battle waiting for a second heart transplant. He was a father, friend, and loving husband. He was a cyclist and Jeep loving freak.

We got to know Mark pretty well the last few years and will miss his smile, his conversations and perseverance.

Mark spoke at the Feb 2019 at the Firetrucker Brewery Adventure Biking Talk (FAB) which was titled "Local Inspiration & Motivation" where we heard FIVE local cyclists talk about how cycling inspired and motivated them to change their lives.

Here is how we introduced Mark for his speech:
"I biked as a kid in WV to get "away" - for the freedom, solitude and self reliance. I met my wife in 1994 and moved to Iowa, started our family and lost my biking connection. My weight tipped the scales at 450lbs and I wasn't well. In 2005 I had a massive "widowmaker " heart attack and needed a heart transplant or I would not survive. I got my heart in August of 2008 and a second chance at life. I spent a lot of time on a stationary bike during rehab and got back into biking and joined Des Moines Cycle Club. Anything is possible on a bike. But the best part is the relationships built on 2 wheels." Firetrucker Adventure Biking Talk (FAB) - Local Inspiration & Motivation

Mary his wife says "He was always so grateful that he was given the extra years with his family and friends. Thank you to all our friends and family who have been with us during this journey! He will forever be missed!"

RIP Mark.
