A biker near Lone Tree was airlifted after being hit by a car Thursday night. Larry Wrede was riding in the eastbound lane of Highway 22 when the accident happened just before 8 p.m., according to a preliminary accident report provided by Washington County emergency personnel.
“During this time, Larry did not have any illuminating lights upon his bicycle,” the report said. “(A driver) was operating his Dodge Ram pickup eastbound on Highway 22 and did not see the bicycle and/or the rider. (The driver) struck the bicycle rider and immediately stopped at the scene.”
According to the report, Wrede suffered trauma to his face and rear skull, and was transported by AirCare to the University of Iowa Emergency Room. No citations were issued, according to the document.
