The first of four streateries is under construction in the 1200 block of Second Street in downtown Perry, a public-private partnership and pilot program aiming to energize retail trade.

As the name implies, a streatery is a street eatery. The pilot program permits private parties, such as bar owners or restaurateurs, to lease sections of Second Street parking space and install outdoor amenities.

Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson said users of the Raccoon River Valley Trail and the soon-to-open High Trestle Trail connector appear to prefer to use patios and outdoor dining areas “not only because of the pandemic and wanting to be outside in a safe environment, but it’s just kind of popular right now.”
