Work began this week on the R Avenue crossing of the High Trestle Trail on Woodward’s west side, as workers with Rockwell City-based Howrey Construction poured the concrete crossing Tuesday morning.Construction of the trail from S to R avenues is slated for later this summer.
The first phase of the $5 million connector-trail project, completed in October 2018, comprised 1.5 miles of trail, starting in Perry and working eastward to 130th Street. Phase two begins at the city limits of Woodward at S Avenue and moves westward one mile to R Avenue.
Phase three will continue westward to Quinlan Avenue, with state and federal funding cycles and contractor bids determining the scheduling of the future phases.
R Avenue will be closed until Tuesday, June 23 to through traffic between 120th Street and 130th Street (County Road R30) while the trail crossing is completed.
