Organizers of the annual Bicycle, Blues & Barbeque Festival have been notified that event Headliner Bernard Allison has cancelled his summer tour due to illness.

“We have tried hard for many years to secure Bernard for our festival and were very excited that he was planning to join us this year.” said festival director, Tim Putnam. “Unfortunately, his doctors have advised him to take the rest of the summer off to recuperate from a serious illness.” Bernard Allison had announced the cancellation of his European tour several weeks ago, but all indications were that he would be ready to hit the road again in July.

Early this week festival organizers were notified that the July and August dates would need to be cancelled to allow Mr. Allison more time to fully recover. Long-time festival favorite, Billylee Janey has agreed to perform in the opening created by the cancellation. “I’m very excited to be returning to the great summer blues and bicycle tradition in Clear Lake” said Janey.

Billylee Janey appeared at the first Bicycle Blues & BBQ festival and has returned several times over the years. “We are so honored that Billylee has stepped up to help us make sure the show will go on, especially on such short notice” said Putnam, “Billylee’s style and energy are a perfect fit to keep the blues rockin’ in City Park!”

The Blues Festival begins on Friday, July 10th at 5pm, in Clear Lake’s City Park, featuring Renee Austin, Alex Wilson, and Reverend Raven and the Chain Smokin’ Altar Boys. It concludes on Saturday, after a full day of bicycle racing, with Billylee Janey’s performance on the band shell stage beginning at 8:30pm.
