A project to provide Ankeny a new community center is underway.

The Ankeny Market and Pavilion project is led by the City of Ankeny and the Ankeny Rotary Club. The $2 million project broke ground this week, though only about $1.75 million of those funds have been raised so far. Pending additional funding, the city’s goal is to complete the project in 2016.

The AMP is designed to be the primary trailhead of the High Trestle Trail, a 26-mile trail between Ankeny and Woodward. Complete with two open-air shelters, which will house the Ankeny Uptown Farmers Market and other community activities, a restroom building, 108 parking spaces, and other open green space, the city hopes the AMP will become the newest attraction for residents.

The first phase of construction includes grading of the site, installment of underground storm water detention basins, utility work and concrete paving of the parking lot. More details on the project can be found here.
