St. Ansgar, IA A champion North Iowa bicyclist was badly injured Tuesday in an accident reportedly involving a car and a bicycle. Dale Blakestad was listed in serious condition at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa Wednesday night. Mitchell County sheriff's deputies and the Iowa State Patrol were both dispatched to the accident scene Tuesday. No report was available Wednesday night so no other details have been released. Blakestad, a lifelong bicycling enthusiast, has ridden more than 2,500 miles this year and has received many honors including: • Championship honors in both the time trial race and road race in his age division at the Iowa Games. • Three first-place honors and one second place at the Minnesota Games. • Second place in the Austin, Minn., annual 4th of July Spam Jam ride.
