Three East Village bike events the last weekend in August

Three East Village bike events are schedule for the last weekend in August. It’s a tricycle of events, if you will. 1. On August 29, a Bicycle Coasting Contest will take place on the East Walnut Street hill, beginning at 6:30 p.m. A $5 entrance fee benefits the Des Moines Bicycle Collective. An East Coast king, East Coast queen, East Coast prince, and East Coast princess will be crowned. Bring your bike and compete in the following categories: Mountain bike/comfort bike/new cruiser road bike/tri bike/skinny tire Vintage fat-tire coaster recumbent tricycle big wheel touring tandem BMX 2. Also, on August 29, the Des Moines Cycle Club is hosting a Pajama Party in the East Village. The event cost $5 and gates open at 6:30 p.m., with food and bike vendors on- hand. The ride starts and finishes at E. 3rd Street (7:30- 8:30 p.m.) with a showing of the movie “Breaking Away” at 9 p.m. 3. And, last event: The East Village Criterium bike race is on August 30.
