Iowa Bicycle Coalition hosts author Joe Kurmaskie in Des Moines DES MOINES (January 8, 2007) -- Joe Kurmaskie, the ‘Metal Cowboy’, will headline the Iowa Bicycle Coalition’s second annual Bike Night Celebration. The event, sponsored by Wellmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, will be held at the Holiday Inn Downtown, Friday, February 2, 2007. The evening begins with reception and silent auction at 5 pm followed by dinner featuring stories and photos of Kurmaskie’s experiences as an author, educator, journalist and ‘adventure dad.’ Kurmaskie is the author of Metal Cowboy, Riding Outside the Lines and, most recently, Momentum is Your Friend – the story of his cross-country bicycle trip with his two sons in tow. The emcee for the evening is Heidi Soliday, Sports Director for KCCI- TV in Des Moines. Described as the “Forest Gump of the bike world,” Kurmaskie has pedaled 84,000 miles throughout the world in search of laughs and inspiration. His show is chalk full of humor and humanity. It's perfect for anyone who wants to dream about a life less stationary and feel the road under their wheels. The Iowa Bicycle Coalition, established in 2004, is a non-profit organization working to promote cycling as safe and enjoyable recreation and transportation throughout Iowa. Funds raised will help the Coalition fund education and advocacy for cycling projects around the state. Space is limited and tickets are only $30! They can be purchased online at www.iowabicyclecoalition.org or by calling 319-626-6017. Deadline for tickets is January 31, 2007. Bike Night rounds out the two-day Iowa Bicycle Summit, a bicycle advocacy and education event at the Holiday Inn Downtown.
