Recap/Results

Stone Park is super-spectator friendly neighborhood park a few minutes South of downtown Des Moines. You can see 95% of the course from any location.

The weather was perfect and the race course did not disappoint!  In the past the race course was known to be dusty and super-bumpy.  Kudos to the Des Moines Parks & Recreation Department for maintaining the park more often and allowing us to use all parts of the park.  This year the late Fall rains smoothed out the majority of the bumps but the course that was set up was still super-challenging for most.

The Fall foliage was in full effect and you can still see some of the Des Moines skyline over the tree-tops. The hill run-up ripe with hecklers and the prime location to watch the run-up, barriers, two mud runs and a down hill into the "Benson" pinwheel. The hill was wetter and slicker than expected which made for a spectator-friendly mud run at the top of the hill after racers had to choose to run the hill or ride over 2 short barriers to obtain enough momentum to find the right lines through the mud lanes. No one was riding the far East corner.

We overheard this more than once "The course was a lot tougher than it looks"... And we agree! The damp ground had that "riding through sand" feeling that take a lot more energy to turn those pedals!
