This event runs through the spring and summer months, between May 1 - August 6. Participants are invited to ride to Little Free Libraries (LFLs) throughout the South District neighborhood of Iowa City.
First, pickup an event guidebook and map at a local South District elementary school--Grant Wood Elementary (1930 Lakeside Dr., Iowa City 52240), Archibald Alexander Elementary (3571 Sycamore Street, Iowa City) School or Faith Academy (1030 Cross Park Ave., Iowa City).
Second, use your map and ride to LFLs throughout the spring and summer. Be sure to BRING A CRAYON and your guidebook on your ride. Check out descriptions of South District trails, parks, art work, organizations, traditions and resources. Plus, in the guidebook there are tips for bike safety.
Next, locate the wooden plaque with a unique texture on the library.
Then, collect a rubbing of the texture in the space provided inside the guidebook. Participants can do this in any order, some LFLs will have the wooden plaques, others may not. Feel free to use the LFLs too--Take a book, and/or leave a book. Travel with an adult if necessary.
Finally, after collecting 15 or more rubbings, swing by the South District Neighborhood National Night Out event at Wetherby Park--2400 Taylor Dr., Iowa City, IA. 52240--on August 6th.
