About The Walnut

Remember the Spot Food Truck? Well the same owners are behind The Walnut!

They traded their wheels for walls in 2017 when they opened The Walnut, after four successful years operating The Spot — Des Moines’ first modern food truck! They brought the recipes that made them a success on the road into their new permanent location on the city’s West End.

Their customers can again enjoy their signature fresh, made-to-order, sandwiches and sides crafted with locally sourced ingredients and a premium bar featuring local brews on tap.

The Walnut has some history and was built in 1928 and housed Kelly-Stanley Tires & Batteries. From the original garage doors on the bar, to the restored cement floors and window frames, their goal was to showcase the history and beauty of this building. It is a perfect complement to our commitment to be a part of downtown Des Moines’ renaissance on the West side.
