As spring settles in, work has wrapped up or is set to begin on a number of projects at Big Sioux Recreation Area and Oak Grove Park near Hawarden.

Oak Grove Trail update
Adding to the trail system has continued to be an important part of ongoing work at Big Sioux as well.
Last fall, about half a mile of bike trail was paved at Big Sioux, bringing the total up to a mile. That project had funding from the American Rescue Plan, the Siouxland Community Foundation grant and the Hawarden Community Foundation grant.
Big Sioux has about 2 miles of unpaved hiking and biking trails. More sections of unpaved trails will eventually be paved, Klocke said, with another mile or so next in line. A bridge to allow the path to cross over a narrow section of the southern pond is also in the plans.
