Cannondale Recalls Road Bicycles Due to Fall Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. Name of product: 2009 Six 5, Six 6, Six Carbon 5 and Six Carbon 6 Bicycles Units: About 1,300 Importer: Cannondale Bicycle Corporation, of Bethel, Conn. Hazard: The bicycles fail to meet the federal safety standard for bicycles. Spoke protector discs, required on bicycles to prevent the bicycle chain from interfering or suddenly stopping the wheel, are missing from these bicycles. This poses a fall hazard to the rider. Incidents/Injuries: None reported. Description: The following Cannondale bicycles are included in the recall. "Six" is printed on the bicycle’s top tube and "Cannondale" is printed on the down tube. Sold at: Authorized Cannondale dealers nationwide from October 2008 through February 2009 for between $1,500 and $2,100. Manufactured in: Taiwan Remedy: Consumers should stop using the recalled bicycles immediately and contact any authorized Cannondale bicycle dealer for a free repair.
