The Plymouth County Board of Supervisors granted — and then rescinded — a request from McClure Engineering on behalf of the city of Sioux City for permits for a bike trail off Highway 75 that would parallel Frelon Avenue and cross County Road C-80 and Lone Tree Road.
It initially passed 5-0 during the Tuesday, March 26, meeting, but after questions were raised by County Attorney Darin J. Raymond about trail maintenance and the assumption of liability, it was reversed by the same vote. The bike trail, which would traverse through much of Plymouth County, has been under discussion for more than a decade. A section between Merrill to Le Mars is already underway, and the request was for a permit for a stretch between Hinton and Sioux City.
