Over the Memorial Day Weekend we had a chance to visit Decorah and check out the Trout Run Trail. Being used to the flat rail-trails around Central Iowa, it was an enjoyable experience...no, actually a thrill...to cycle this breathtaking area of Northeast Iowa. Sure, there is some climbing involved (I recommend taking the loop in a clockwise fashion...seems to be a little less uphill this way) but what goes up, must come down, and it was exhilirating rolling down some of those long, winding hills. The scenery is nothing short of spectacular. Rather than describe it, I hope my photos speak for themselves.

I agree with the review recently posted about the Trout Run Trail, Decorah is a charming community and there is lots to see and do there. Looking for a nice weekend getaway? Decorah should be high on your list. If you like cycling, kayaking, or hiking you will find plenty to do here.

Kudos to the folks in Winnishiek County who made this trail possible, as well as the work they're doing on other trails in the county (i.e. Prairie Farmer Trail).
