Several students walked, biked, and even roller-skated into school Oct. 4.

It's all part of a nationwide initiative to encourage healthy lifestyles and promote environmental sustainability.

Iowa has been involved with National Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day for the past ten years.

The Iowa Bicycle Coalition said roughly 31 Iowa schools participated.

"This year we have a recordnumber of schools participating," said Safe Routes School Manager Matt Burkey.
