Sam's Cemetary is Iowa's newest refurbished Pioneer Cemetery.

Near Mingo, over 220 Iowans are buried at Sam's Cemetary. Infants to Civil War Soldiers to settlers with measles. It is a cemetery once forgotten, but now revived. The cemetery has been around since 1855.

The 'Restoration and Preservation of Sams Pioneer Cemetery' Committee has invited cyclists to ride out on this special day to honor all those buried at Sam's Cemetary.

The celebration will include a mass installation of wind chimes. The bells will toll for 60 children who died under the age of 10.

The Governors Own 49th Iowa Civil War Honor Guard coming and we will have artillery and cannons!  Our ceremony will
last about an hour and a complimentary lunch is served after the ceremony.  This is a family event and we welcome everyone!

From Sams, on a clear day, you can see the Principal Building in Des Moines.
Bathrooms will be provided for ceremony
Bring a picnic blanket if possible, if not, no worries, chairs are provided.

Go past Valeria for 1+ miles to the first gravel road
Take a Right (West) and continue for 1/4 mile
Take a left at the 3rd gate (you'll see a "Sams" sign)
Go another 1/4 miles to a gree gate.
Go throhg the green gate and follow it ot the top of the hill


Coming from North
Go SouthEast from Mingo for 2+ miles to the 3rd gravel road.
Take a Left (West) and continue for 1/4 mile
Take a left at the 3rd gate (you'll see a "Sams" sign)
Go another 1/4 miles to a gree gate.
Go throhg the green gate and follow it ot the top of the hill
