The Des Moines Police Activities League teamed up with the Street Collective to give 100 kids a free bike.
Des Moines resident Tricia Madison was one of the parents who brought her children to the event.
"I think sometimes, you know, police can get a bad rap," Madison said. "Coming out here, it's one of those things, like I see my kids interacting with other children. And it's bringing this community together,"
Along with the bikes, the kids received a free helmet and bike lock. An added safety measure was a bike rodeo, teaching kids bike safety.
There were also other activities, information and resources to help keep kids busy this summer.
