The secluded dirt track along Four Mile Creek has been in existence almost 20 years. But Polk County just announced plans to take it down as part of a restoration project.
A dirt bike course hidden in the woods near Four Mile Creek just hit the biggest bump in the road in almost 20 years.
Polk County Conservation posted a notice last week that the site will soon be graded as part of a broader project along the creek.
"It's been around since the early 2000s," said Cody Embrey, a regular biker and ramp builder. "A lot of the older guys built it up. It was just a few ramps, and then this summer a bunch of guys came back here and started building."
The course now has about a dozen ramps up to nine feet tall. On a given night, it attracts 15 to 20 bikers.
"We spent a lot of time perfecting it, I guess you would say, building the ramps what we wanted," he said. "For people to come back here, take photos, share it, tell us how great it is to see the trails running again, it's nice."
