At the end of July, 15,000 to 20,000 people were in Charles City (my hometown) overnight for RAGBRAI. I interacted with 13 people at my home and 50-plus when I joined a group for dinner.
Everyone enjoyed each other's company — interested in each other's lives. Never once was an ill word said to one another. In my home the ages ranged from 16 to 70-something. We all loved hearing their ideas and reactions to traveling across Iowa on a bike.
Here is the lesson: Democrats, Republicans and independents, talk to each other, respect each other and listen to each other. Forget what party you belong to and realize you may have to all compromise to reach a solution.
You were brought up to respect each other, so please get back to doing so.
