The Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa is just over a week from arriving to Centerville, as final preparations are underway.

While many volunteers have either already been taking part in the planning stages of the event and many others have signed up, there are still many areas for volunteers to get in on the action as the community welcomes several thousand to town on July 27.

It’s estimated that more than 100 additional volunteers are needed to work two-hour shifts at various areas of the event. The biggest need currently is the beverage garden, which is in need of approximately 60-75 people, who would do everything from checking IDs, to taking money to serving drinks and more.

The campground committee is asking for a few dozen more volunteers that will help checking riders and support crews in and directing them where they need to go.

The information tent also has some holes in the schedule. These duties are as simple as handing out information and materials, as well as being among the first to welcome riders to Centerville.

Greeters to line the street to cheer on the riders as they arrive on West State Street are also desired.

Volunteers are needed the day before, day of and day after the RAGBRAI visit. For information on how to volunteer, visit the RAGBRAI Centerville volunteers page at http://www.RAGBRAICenterville.com/volunteer. Interested persons can also contact the Centerville-Rathbun Lake Area Chamber of Commerce at (641) 436-0009 or at chamber@centervilleia.com.
