Medical Condition Causes Man To Crash Bicycle

Des Moines police investigators first thought Robert Eugene Bennett, 63, may have been hit by a car just outside KCCI studios Saturday afternoon. Now they say Bennett suffered a medical condition that forced him to crash his bicycle into a parking meter.
Someone found Bennett unresponsive on the sidewalk near 9th Street and Crocker late Saturday afternoon.
Bennett was bleeding from his head and unconscious when paramedics arrived. An ambulance took him to Methodist Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition Saturday night.
