World Cup
The Telenet UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup returns to Iowa City as part of the 3 day Jingle Cross Cyclo-Cross Festival. The World Cup has only been awarded to North America 5 times... and Iowa City counts for 2 of those for this year's honor. Last year, the World Cup was awarded to Iowa City for the first time thanks to the 13 year efforts of
Jingle Cross team of amazing volunteers. Joined by the local Iowa City-Coralville Convention and Visitor's Bureau (nicknamed the CVB), Jingle Cross and the CVB joined forces to bring a world class event to the Johnson County Fairgrounds putting Iowa City on the map for tens of millions of sports fans.
Global
Now the best bike racers in the world descend on Iowa City once again for the first of this prestigious globally televised nine race series which premiers in Iowa this September. Only the top athletes from each nation are selected by their National Cycling Federations to compete. Last year's men's race was won by 2 time reigning World Champion Wout van Aert from Belgium. Van Aert will take on the other notable international superstars including Matthieu van Der Poole, Laurens Sweeck, and US National Champion Stephen Hyde. On the women's side, World Champion Sanne Cant of Belgium will try and unseat last year's Iowa City World Cup Champion and 13 time US National Champion Katie Compton. The Telenet UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup will be broadcast LIVE globally to dozens of nations by the European broadcasting company Telenet. NBC Sports Network will broadcast in the US.

Beers & Gears Celebration
In addition to three days of cyclo-cross racing, the Jingle Cross Cyclo-Cross Festival and Telenet UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup this year will include a Beers & Gears celebration featuring several Deschutes Brewery craft beers, including some that only are available at the Jingle Cross in Iowa City or the Deschutes brewpub in Oregon.
Beers & Gears will take place Friday, Sept. 15, through Sunday, Sept. 17, at the Johnson County Fairgrounds south of Iowa City. Cyclo-cross races also begin Friday, Sept. 15, and continue until the Telenet UCI women’s and men’s World Cup races on Sunday, Sept. 17.
The Deschutes Beers & Gears beer garden with live music will be located in the north area of the fairgrounds from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Featured beers will include Twilight Summer Ale and Decathletes Desire, which are only produced at Deschutes Brewery’s Portland and Bend, Oregon, pubs. Other varieties on tap will include Fresh Squeezed IPA, Pacific Wonderland Lager, Hopzeit Autumn IPA, and Deschutes’ newest brew, American Wheat Ale.
A 16-ounce draft will cost $5. Additional 12-ounce bottles of Deschutes Brewery varieties will be available at beverage stations around the fairgrounds for the same price.
“Jingle Cross is a great venue for Deschutes to bring our beers to the craft beer crowd in Iowa,” says DeVries. “What could be better than being at Jingle Cross, the UCI World Cup, and having a cold Deschutes beer in your hand?”

What is Cyclo-cross?
Cyclo-cross is a sport that combines cycling, steeplechase, and NASCAR all rolled into one. Athletes race around a 2 miles course with steep hills, difficult descents, mud, grass, sand and dirt. This is a circuit race so the athletes pass the spectators many times every few minutes as they go lap after lap over obstacles and barriers sometimes riding, sometimes running with their bikes. There's even a pit with mechanics and a pit crew for each athlete. Everything happens on the Johnson county fairgrounds and the action is all around you. Large screen TV's will relay the event too so no matter where you stand at the venue, you will see all the action. We've got fun and games all day for the Kids and its great for the family. And don't forget the great Iowa food vendors, bands, DJ's, and the new 3 day Deschutes Brewery Beers and Gears Oktoberfest Celebration and you have a huge globally televised party!
