Get ready for Ragbrai with the Iowa Humane Alliance upcoming “Break the Cycle” bicycle ride and local shelter/rescue tour on June 3rd . The pedaling public is invited to help break the cycle of unwanted litters of pets flooding into our local shelters and rescues by participating in a super-fun event “geared” to help the whole community. All funds raised will directly benefit the Iowa Humane Alliance Regional Spay/Neuter Clinic, now in its fifth year of operation in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City Corridor. Event attendees are encouraged to pre-register to bike the 35 mile round-trip route but there will be short (Bunny Hop Route – 5 Miles) medium (Stray Cat Strut Route – 22 miles) and long (Barnyard Dog Route – 35 miles) available.
Along the way, these righteous riders will be able to tour rescues and shelters, meet adoptable animals and get to know all the great animal welfare organizations available in our community. You might just meet your new best fur-friend! The days festivities will end with a Fun Fur All after party at ---Aces and Eights in the Czech Village --in the NewBo District from 5:00 to 8:00pm.
Starting in the New Bo District of Cedar Rapids, the city-to-country and back again route will visit groups including Dogs For Ever, Last Hope Animal Rescue, SAINT Rescue, Animal Resource Foundation, Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control, Witty Kitties Special Needs Animal Shelter and Iowa Equine Rescue and Awareness League. Event tickets for cyclists who pre-register cost just $30, and include our totally stylin’ Break the Cycle T-shirt. Registration after May 1st will be available on line prior to June 3rd and from 8:30am to 9:45am on June 3rd for $35 at the event check in. Registered event attendees who have visited each shelter and rescue location will have their route maps stamped, making them eligible for a drawing at the Fun Fur All After Party to win totally cool prizes!
Topping off the awesome animal appeal of this event: the after party will feature live music by the legendary Craig Erickson and Friends
As noted, proceeds from the day’s events will help fund programs provided by Iowa Humane Alliance (IHA) and their Regional Spay/Neuter Clinic located in Cedar Rapids. IHA's on-going mission is to reduce companion animal overpopulation and animal suffering in Iowa by providing services such as high-quality, low-cost spay/neuter procedures. After opening in 2013, the IHA Regional Spay/Neuter Clinic has spayed or neutered over 28,000 owned, shelter and rescue animals as well as free-roaming stray cats, preventing tens of thousands of unwanted animals entering our local shelters and rescues. The “Break the Cycle” event will also help raise awareness for Spay/Neuter/Adopt and help generate support for all the hard-working local animal welfare organizations in the area. It's good for riders, good for animals, good for our whole community! So gear up for the critters, as we all pitch in to “Break the Cycle!”
