A new bike trail was officially opened near Floyd and Outer Drive. The new bridge connects two trails previously separated by train tracks. Before the bridge was built, cyclists had to either cross the train tracks on foot or turn around. The new connector is making local cyclists very excited. Not only is this a significantly safer way to get past the train tracks it also adds more trail for local cyclists to ride on without having to change course.

"[I'm] very excited about the future of Sioux City," said local cyclist Beth Grigsby. "We've been missing connections between the trails for a number of years and this is a great start to getting the trails connected."

Sioux City Parks and Rec Director Matt Salvatore says he's been getting a lot of support from the community.

"We had a very supportive group of individuals that utilize our trail system. We are very happy about it," Salvatore said. "We've received lots of positive comments and we want to keep moving with our trail projects in Sioux City."

Salvatore hopes that this is the first step in connecting all the bike trails around Sioux City. The next step is finishing the Big Sioux Trail. They're adding three quarters of a mile around Riverside Park. That project should be done by October 1st.
