Cyclists pedaled through the rain in downtown Iowa City on Saturday and Sunday for the annual Chris Lillig Memorial Cup.

Despite temperatures in the 40s and sporadic rainfall, the cup drew 100 to 150 racers across a variety of categories, according to race director Ben Anderson, president of the Iowa City Cycling Club. Contestants battled it out downtown, going round after round in a 1-kilometer route that circled up and down hillsaround the University of Iowa Pentacrest on Washington, Dubuque, Jefferson and Madison streets.

Macen Van Allen, of Nevada, Iowa, took first place in the 40-lapMen's Pro Old Capitol Criteriumrace at the end of the event Sunday. Although he has raced professionally, Van Allen said this is the first time he has gotten a trophy rather than a medal.
