By Steven Martens CLINTON, Iowa — With several projects to improve Clinton’s riverfront recently completed or under way, the Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Institute chose a class project that adds to that effort. The 18 members of the class plan to raise money to install about 50 lights along a portion of the riverfront bike trail from Riverview Drive to the North Bridge. The Leadership Institute was established in 1984 to develop community leaders. Each year’s class completes a community service project. While many classes completed short-term projects and organized events, this year’s class wanted to “do something that would last quite a while in the community,” project co-chairwoman Kristina Davids said. The class hopes to raise about $160,000 through donations and grants to install about 50 lights along the trail. “We’re confident we can do that,” co-chairman Rich Klahn said. “We’re off to a good start.” Davids said lights have been ordered and should arrive in three to four weeks, and Electric Service of Clinton has been contracted to do the installation. Davids said the class hopes to have the project completed this summer. Anyone interested in contributing to the effort can contact Davids at (563) 243-6320 or Klahn at (563) 244-4130.
