Perry Chamber Hosts the 31st BRR Ride

The Perry Chamber of Commerce hosts BRR (Bike Ride to Rippey) as an annual event. This year’s theme is “Grin & BRR It!” BRR will take place the first Saturday, February 2, 2008. The BRR ride is a 24-mile round trip from Perry to Rippey and back to Perry. It has been a frigid 37 degrees below, trek in a foot of snow or a balmy high of 60 degrees …The ride continues no matter what the weather! BRR is also known as the “Original WINTER Ride” as well as the “Winter Ragbrai Reunion.” The BRR event has attracted over 3,000 plus riders that attend from all over the country. Hosted by the Perry Chamber of Commerce, the event is a frozen-filled day of biking, games, prizes and entertainment. New this year: All events, including the ride, begin and end at McCreary Community Building on 1800 Pattee Street, off of 9th Street.

The following is the schedule of Events:

McCreary Community Building Breakfast (Open to public) 7 - 10:00 a.m. Registration 8 – 10 a.m. Ride kickoff by Chuck Scheib’s cannon 10 a.m. Food, prizes, games, raffle drawings 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

City of Rippey Lions at Community Bldg.- Roast Beef Sandwiches, Soup, & beverage 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Relay for Life-Tyson’s grilled goodies 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Rippey ChurchYouth Grp – Potatoe Bar 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Beverage Tent – Ball Diamond in the park 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Music by “Big Daddy Addy”

Downtown Breadeaux Pizza, Casa de Oro, Mandarin Café - Open All Day Rockin’ Horse & The Highland Elk Coffe House/Bistro - Open All Day Lisa’s Pub – (Friday nite Karoake, 8-1am) - Open All Day Bally Hoo – “Skeeter Creek Band, River City Rockets & Dallas County Rebels”- 2 p.m. – 1 a.m. Reverse Night Club – “Gimikk” 9 p.m. – 1 a.m.

Riders may pre-register for the ride at: www.bikeiowa.com, or may call the Perry Chamber of Commerce for a registration form. The $30 pre-registration includes: commemorative t-shirt, 22nd annual BRR pin (first 300 pre-registrants), chance to win $500 in Perry Bucks, hot chocolate break, lunch, sag wagon, games, entertainment and admission to the McCreary Community Center (pool, sauna, etc.).
