Halloween is celebrated, in one form or another, all over the world. In Belgium people light a candle in memory of dead relatives. In Germany, they hide their knives (in case returning spirits find them). In Hong Kong, pictures of fruit or money are burned in hopes that they will reach the spirit world and comfort the dead. In Iowa, we race Cyclocross.
Guys and Ghouls... Spooky Cross falls on Halloween this year... brought to you by Living History Farms and Zoom Performance, this weekend's races will be pefect for every Halloweener!
In its third year running, Spooky 'Cross is the last two races in the inaugural Scheel's Central Iowa Cyclocross Series. The Spooky 'Cross races have been a top-notch event in the past, and for those of you who raced at Moffit Lake in the pouring rain two years ago, know how much fun a true Cross Course can be!
Whether you're a total newbie to 'cross or a seasoned campaigner, we've got a race for you. Our scenic Living History Farms location provides an excellent backdrop for spending a weekend outside testing your own limits or relaxing with friends and family. Make sure you show up both days as the courses will be completely different.
RACE DETAILS: SATURDAY | SUNDAY (races happen rain or shine)
Guess what - Saturday is Oct 31st - Halloween my friends. Last year's race fell on the 28th and there were more spooks, ghosts and goblins on the course and sidelines that we knew what to do with. We expect more outta ya this year! Mr. Nixon in the speedo can stay home though. That was just too creepy. Although not condoned by the race promoters (yet), I'm sure we can think up a good prize for the best costume on the course (races) and the sidelines (spectator). Have you ever seen Scooby-Doo on the podium? You might...
A reminder - If you have not picked up your Limited Edition "Central Iowa Cyclocross Series" Spoke Card, better do it this weekend. We've started with 250 and only about 50 left. They will be at the registration table until they are gone.
Sunday Awards - After Sunday's races are over, stick around Living History Farms for the Scheel's Central Iowa Cyclocross Series awards ceremony. This inaugural series along with the Tuesday night Renegade practices have exploded the Central Iowa Cyclocross this year and for years to come! The series points are close, and you can bet the races this weekend will be fast and exciting. Last chance crossers.
Saturday's race will kick-off at noon in the same location as last year (north side): enter off of Douglas, just west of I-35/80. Sunday's race will start at 10:00 and be based on the south end of the farm. You will enter/park off at the main entrance off of Hickman.
