Starting at 10,600- feet, the Leadville Trail 100 Mountain Bike Race is considered one of the highest and most challenging mountain bike races in the world. In 2004 Dee and Dave Mable pushed off at E. Sixth and Harrison for a 12-hour, 100-mile race over six long climbs on their tandem bicycle. That first year the pair earned their buckles by a scant four-and-a-half minutes.

In their three attempts that followed they landed twice on the second step of the podium and once just inside the time limit. The following is a conversation between the two, recounting the highs and lows, the challenges and victories they discovered along the way as they rode their tandem in the Race Across the Sky!
