A popular Des Moines bike trail near the downtown Gray's Lake area is expected to close this week.
Des Moines Parks and Recreation said on Wednesday the Meredith Trail will be closed from MacRae Park to the Southwest First Street Bridge.
The closure is due to construction in the area to raise the elevation of the levee system, which are federally mandated repairs.
The project calls for portions of the trail to be removed and replaced on top of the new elevation of the levee.
Estimated completion date is Fall 2022.
