It was announced on Jan. 12 the PlyWood Trail project was awarded $300,000 towards its second phase.

The Iowa Transportation Commission approved $1,279,200 in total funding for six federal Recreational Trails Program.

“We’re thrilled they awarded us funding to help connect the communities of Le Mars and Merrill by trail as part of our Phase 1B project,” said Lesley Bartholomew of the PlyWood Trail Committee. “Phase 1A is currently moving forward with work being completed by Godbersen Smith. The PlyWood Trail Committee is excited to get this project underway.”

Phase 1A involves the construction of the Merrill trailhead and a .25 mile bridge over the Floyd Valley West Fork.

Cost of the first phase is estimated at $1.5 million with construction set to begin summer 2022. Ground was broken on the first phase on Dec. 21, 2021.
