Kenny Randolph thought he was just joining his friends at Bike World the day after Christmas. When he walked in, he started checking out bicycles. Soon after he was taking one out for a ride. When he came back from that 10-minute ride, he was pretty shocked to find the Phat bike he had just ridden was now his.

"I don't even know where to start," said Randolph on Saturday. "I didn't think anybody would do this for me."

Randolph can often be found along 2nd Avenue, riding his bike from Ankeny to get to his job at Firestone in Des Moines. He works a 12-hour shift and leaves around an hour before work starts, which means there's very little sunlight when he sets out.

"I commute up 2nd Avenue in the morning and it's dark.
