Jasper County authorities are working to identify a bicyclist killed in a crash with a semi-truck early Monday morning.

The Jasper County Sheriff says the incident happened at 4:30 a.m. in the 8000 block of Highway 6 near Kellogg.

Jasper County officials say the rider was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Jasper County Sheriff says the driver of the semi stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

The rider has not been identified. Sheriff’s officials describe him as a white man wearing glasses in his 30s with brown hair, approximately 5’8” and 160 lbs.

Melvin Ties, 71 of Newton strikes and kills cyclist on Highway 6 and Imperial Ave. The crash resulted in a fatality.

Police report states vehicle was a Volvo tractor.

The cyclist's name has not been released and the crash is still under investigation.
