With a test on display lighting complete, the new bridge connecting pedestrians and bikers from Gray's Lake to downtown Des Moines is one step closer to opening.

Hubbell Realty Co. is working with the city to finalize an opening date on the$3.8 million bridge. The company expects to announce it in the next month.

Once open, the bridge will take pedestrians and cyclists over the Raccoon River, connecting Hubbell's new urban neighborhood, Gray's Station, on the north side of the river to theKruidenier Trail that circles Gray's Lake on the south side. Located on 75 acres south of downtown, Gray's Station will transform an abandoned rail yard into an upscale, walkable neighborhood.

The new pedestrian bridge will be litat nightwith a variety of patterns and colors. The lighting scheme will change with the season and special events and can match the current lighting colors on the existing Gray's Lake bridge.
