The Johnson County Spirit Trail Coalition expressed interest in joining the conceptual U.S. Bike Route 51 corridor that would run from Louisiana, through Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa and Minnesota.
Brent Hugh, executive director of the Missouri Bicycle and Pedestrian Federation, explained the project to the coalition members at its meeting Tuesday, April 16.
The route is accepted into the U.S. Bicycle Route System as a “corridor,” Hugh said, with wide discretion as to the final route through Missouri. In addition to the main route, he said spurs, belt or alternate or “adventure” routes can be incorporated into the network.
