Spring has sprung, and as more people pile into the streets downtown, Iowa City leaders want to remind folks of the rules.

The city sent out a press release this week noting thatIowa City ordinance forbids biking, skating, skateboarding or any other similar wheeled devices from being on the sidewalks in the Downtown Business District, including the pedestrian mall.

The district runs north-south from E. Jefferson Street to W. Burlington Street and east-west from N. Capital Street to S. Gilbert Street with a cut out on the northwest corner for the Pentacrest which is not included in the ordinance.

With the weather finally making time outside enjoyable, the city is warning that anyone caught riding a "wheeled device" on a sidewalk may be fined. The fine is $15 for a bike and $10 for other non-motorized vehicles. But in a press release from the city, they warn that surcharges and court costs could add up to $80 for each ticket.
