A Colorado man will be extradited to Waterloo after investigators say his DNA was matched to an attack along an area trail in July 2015.
24-year-old Patrick Burt is being held on a $500,000 bond in suburban Denver, Colorado, where he now lives.
Police say he was a Waterloo resident in 2015, when a woman was attacked while jogging in George Wyth State Park. After being found semi-conscious and covered in dirt and blood, the woman was taken to Allen Hospital for treatment on a broken nose, chipped teeth and other injuries. During her treatment, forensic evidence was also submitted to the State Crime Lab. Then, last Tuesday, Waterloo police were notified by the lab that Burt’s DNA was allegedly a match through CODIS (Combined DNA Index System) analysis.
Burt is being charged with Wilfull Injury. Waterloo investigators say they worked with authorities at the Aurora, Colorado Police Department in order to make the arrest.
