The Iowa Department of Transportation’s preliminary data shows there were 21 pedestrian deaths in 2018.

There was a total of 319 driving fatalities in 2018. A 20 year high of 28 pedestrians died in 2015.

The average is 22 pedestrian deaths per year since 2008, according to state data.

According to the Iowa bicycle coalition website, a total of 10 people died when riding their bicycles. Of those 10, seven of them involved another vehicle.

The 2017 numbers show that five bicyclists were killed by motorists, however, four of those five were under the age of 16.
