Cascade City Council voted in favor of a plan to reduce their 1st Street from a four-lane to a three-lane road.

The council voted Monday to change the fourth lane into a bike lane during their meeting.

The proposal will create one lane each of east and westbound traffic, with a center turning lane.

The street will also have two feet of space on the outer edge of each side of the street for bicycle traffic.

During the meeting, the council also approved to install a traffic warning signal at two different intersections along 1st Street. One is near Cascade Elementary School and the other is on the west side of the community.

The council has not said when the projects will be completed.

The council said if there's time to complete the projects before school begins, they will pursue that option. Otherwise, they said the projects may not be done until summer 2019.
