Our Town Anamosa is in the heart of the Grant Wood Region, a designated area that includes Jones, Jackson and Dubuque Counties. Through that designation, supporters have created a list of priorities to show off all the region has to offer.
Not far from Main Street in Our Town Anamosa is Wapsipinicon State Park, right along the Wapsi River. "You think of Iowa, you think of flat cornfields everywhere. Well, we've got rock climbing and so many great state parks and so many amenities that even the people who live here don't know what all is here," says trail committee member, Kris Gobeli.
That's why, 12 years ago, an effort formed to connect Anamosa to Wapsi State Park with a trail. The flood of 2008 pushed that idea aside until a few years ago, when Jones County became part of the Grant Wood Region through the Parks to People program.
