A Newton woman has been charged with attempted murder after police say she intentionally struck two people on a bicycle with her vehicle last week.

Rosela Procenko, 23, was arrested Sunday on two counts of attempted murder after she hit the two riding double on a bicycle Friday and drove away, police said. She remained Monday at the Jasper County Jail on $150,000 bond.

Officers responded at 8:40 p.m. Friday to the 500 block of East 14th St. North, a residential street, for a call of two people struck by a vehicle, Newton police said. There, witnesses confirmed what the victims told officers: a driver appeared to have intentionally hit them.

The two were taken to Skiff Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, authorities said. Witnesses gave police a description of the vehicle and the driver, who was identified as Procenko.

If convicted, Procenko could face up to 25 years in prison on each count. She did not have an attorney who could be reached for comment Monday night.
